The President of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, stated that the private sector plays a significant role in boosting the 'tourism industry' in the country.
He emphasized the importance of the government continuing to collaborate with the private sector to ensure sustainable tourism.
Dr. Mwinyi made these remarks during the closing of a special diplomatic tour for ambassadors representing their countries in Tanzania, aimed at promoting Tanzania's tourism and economic diplomacy.
He also mentioned that the government is taking strong measures to enhance the tourism sector, making Zanzibar a recognized and attractive global tourism hub.
He highlighted that tourism is a " vital sector" and a pillar of Zanzibar's economy, connecting people from various nations worldwide.
Furthermore, Dr. Mwinyi noted that the government has made significant efforts to improve airport facilities to provide better services for tourists, expand road infrastructure, and enhance health, electricity, and water services, which are crucial for attracting sustainable tourism.
He pointed out that these efforts have led to an increasing number of tourists, reaching nearly two million annually, and connecting Zanzibar with 34 international airlines bringing visitors to the country. Additionally, he praised the film 'Royal Tour' by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, as an important tool in promoting Tanzania's tourist attractions globally.
Dr. Mwinyi mentioned that investment strategies have allowed for the reception of 548,503 tourists in 2022, with 736,755 visitors in 2023, earning a World Travel Award for being a leading destination for international events and gatherings. Regarding the diplomatic tour, he said it is a crucial step for cooperation among nations through the tourism sector and partnership through various activities in the country.
