The Construction and Rehabilitation Company for Transport and Electricity Distribution Infrastructure (ETDCO) has successfully completed the construction of a 132-kilovolt power line stretching 102 kilometers from Tabora to Ipole.
This project will provide "reliable electricity" to the residents of Sikonge District, fostering development in the area.
During the inauguration of the new line on April 27, 2025, in Tabora, ETDCO's Acting Managing Director, CPA Sadock Mugendi, announced that the project is fully completed, allowing the people of Ipole to access dependable electricity.
He expressed gratitude to the government and the Ministry of Energy for their trust in ETDCO to execute this project and mentioned that they are in the final stages of completing the second phase of the project, which extends from Ipole to Mlele District in Katavi, covering approximately 133 kilometers.
CPA Mugendi urged the community to take care of the project’s infrastructure, emphasizing the significant investment made by the government for the benefit of the citizens and the nation as a whole.
TANESCO's Project Manager, Engineer Sospeter Oralo, revealed that the Tabora to Katavi project cost a total of 161 billion shillings, with the first phase completed, enabling Sikonge residents to receive 12 megawatts of power through the new line.
He encouraged the community to leverage this electricity for economic investments to improve their livelihoods while highlighting the benefits of using clean electricity at home, which can reduce costs and enhance health and environmental conditions.
Additionally, ETDCO's Project Manager for the Tabora to Katavi segment, Engineer Ebenezer Makakala, added that local residents had the opportunity to work as laborers during the project’s implementation, further benefiting the community.
This project marks a significant step towards improving the " quality of life" for the citizens and providing better services.
