Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to "compel " Russia to pursue peace.
Trump, who has previously voiced his dissatisfaction with Vladimir Putin for undermining Zelensky's authority, acknowledged his frustration with the Russian leader, particularly after Putin claimed that Ukraine required new leadership amid the ongoing conflict.
In a recent post on X, Zelensky emphasized that Russia is actively seeking justifications to prolong the war, asserting that Putin has been employing the same tactics since 2014.
He warned that this situation poses a threat to global stability and called for a decisive response from the United States, Europe, and other international allies committed to peace.
Zelensky's remarks coincided with Trump's indication that Russia might face additional 'economic sanctions ' due to stalled peace talks, suggesting potential tariffs of 25 to 50 percent on Russian oil. Trump further cautioned that countries engaging in oil trade with Russia would face restrictions in the U.S. market.
