The Ministry of Health, in its implementation of the 2024/25 budget plan, has outlined priorities focused on enhancing healthcare services across the country. This includes strengthening disease prevention efforts and improving the accessibility and quality of health services from local clinics to national facilities, thereby facilitating easier access for citizens.
Health Minister Hon. Jenista Mhagama made these remarks on March 19, 2025, while presenting the Ministry's budget execution report to the Parliamentary Committee on Health and HIV/AIDS, chaired by Acting Chairperson Hon. Bernadetha Mushashu.
Additionally, the Ministry has improved the financing systems for health services, maternal and child health care, and the recruitment and development of health professionals in various specialties.
Minister Mhagama highlighted the ongoing support for traditional and alternative medicine, as well as the enhancement of treatment services for infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and mental health care, alongside various health research initiatives.
"During the 2024/25 budget period, a total of 1,846,540 pregnant women attended clinics, with 1,744,980 of them, or 94.5%, making four visits, compared to 91% in the same period last year."
This increase in clinic attendance during pregnancy is attributed to educational outreach, the availability of nearby health service centers, and the implementation of guidelines for essential services during pregnancy, which shifted from quarterly to monthly visits. Minister Mhagama also noted that the Ministry continues to enhance specialized medical services provided in various facilities.
