The government of Tanzania has provided food and various supplies to 241 residents of Mlenge and Itunundu Wards in the Isimani constituency of Iringa District, following the destruction of their homes by 'strong winds' accompanied by ongoing rainfall in the area.
The affected individuals have shared the impact of the rains, which not only led to the loss of homes but also resulted in the tragic deaths of three residents, with an additional 59 left homeless.
Also, they reported significant damage to their food crop reserves, including maize, rice, and beans. During a condolence message and the distribution of aid on March 25, 2025, the Iringa District Commissioner, Kheri James, outlined the assistance provided, which included maize, rice, beans, mattresses, roofing sheets, and cement bags, along with medical services for the victims.
"The District Commissioner urged the affected residents to remain cautious during this rainy season and assured them that the government is responsive and ready to offer assistance whenever disasters arise."
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister's Office, the district disaster committee, and the security committee for their prompt action, which facilitated the support efforts for the community during this challenging time.
The government's aid aims to restore the residents' living conditions, enabling them to resume their daily activities with greater peace of mind.
