The Tanga Regional Police have provided reasons for the continued detention of renowned boxer Hassan Mwakinyo (29), who is accused of assaulting a local resident, Mussa Ally, under the suspicion of theft.
During a press briefing on Monday, March 10, 2025, Tanga Regional Police Commander Almachius Mchunguzi stated that Mwakinyo is alleged to have attacked and injured Mussa Ally, who claims to be a ' fisherman,' while passing through his neighborhood.
The Commander indicated that once the investigation is complete, further information will be released to the media, and Mwakinyo will be brought to court to face the charges against him.
He emphasized that the legal system will take its course regardless of an individual's social standing, asserting that anyone committing such offenses will face legal consequences.
"The Tanga Regional Police are holding Hassan Mwakinyo (29), a resident of Sahare in Tanga, for assaulting and injuring Mussa Ally, a local fisherman. The investigation is ongoing, and once concluded, the suspect will be presented in court," Mchunguzi stated.
