Brazil resumed discussions to appoint Carlo Ancelotti for the 2026 World Cup.

The Brazilian football federation has reportedly rekindled its interest in Carlo Ancelotti, aiming for him to lead the national team during the 2026 World Cup.

This renewed focus follows Brazil's disappointing 4-1 loss to Argentina in World Cup qualifying, which has left the team in fourth place, with only the top six from CONMEBOL securing automatic qualification for the tournament in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

In 2023, the CBF had sought to appoint the 65-year-old, intending to make him the first foreign head coach in Brazil's history. As pressure mounts on current coach Dorival Junior, The Athletic reports that the federation has reached out to Ancelotti again, although Real Madrid claims to be unaware of any communication.

Brazilian football icon Ronaldo Nazario previously said that the pursuit of Ancelotti was "not a fantasy," despite his initial rejection of their approach.

At that time, Ancelotti was in the final year of his contract with Madrid, and Brazil was optimistic about attracting him, especially since many of his Real Madrid players represent the national team.

CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, recently re-elected unopposed, expressed confidence that Ancelotti would take the role once his contract with Madrid expires in 2024, coinciding with the Copa America in the USA. However, the anticipated appointment did not materialize, as Fernando Diniz was assigned to manage the team temporarily while also serving as head coach of Fluminense.

Ronaldo disclosed that Madrid nearly dismissed Ancelotti, which could have facilitated his move to Brazil, saying that he had engaged in discussions with Ancelotti but ultimately, Real Madrid did not release him.
