President Emmerson , Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has voiced his support for the United States' initiative to deport Zimbabwean nationals living illegally in the country.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he indicated that his administration endorses the repatriation efforts, which align with the US immigration policies established during President Donald Trump's tenure.
This announcement coincides with the US government's plan to deport 545 Zimbabweans as part of a larger operation aimed at over 1.4 million noncitizens identified for removal by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Under Trump's leadership, immigration enforcement has intensified, with daily detentions of undocumented individuals surpassing 500, alongside measures such as reducing aid to developing nations and implementing mass deportations.
The deportation initiative affects not only Zimbabweans but also individuals from other African nations, including 379 South Africans, 174 Zambians, 15 Mozambicans, and 12 Batswana, who are also facing imminent removal.
ICE has reiterated its dedication to the prompt deportation of individuals with final removal orders and has called on foreign governments to assist in accepting their nationals being deported.
Zimbabwe's support for this deportation policy occurs amid ongoing conversations regarding the reintegration of returnees, which may further strain the country's resources as it continues to confront economic difficulties.
