Mloganzila to expand expertise in health

Muhimbili-Mloganzila Hospital continues to focus on providing specialized transplant services, having recently discharged five patients, bringing the total number of kidney transplants performed since the service's inception in 2023 to 15.

During a press briefing on behalf of the Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director Dr. Julieth Magandi highlighted that the provision of these services is a result of investments made by the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Dr. Magandi emphasized that there is no need for Tanzanians to seek kidney transplant services abroad, as local specialists possess the necessary expertise, supportive infrastructure, medical equipment, and conducive environments for delivering such care.

Additionally, Dr. Immaculate Goima, a nephrology specialist at Muhimbili- Mloganzila, said that the hospital currently serves around 90 patients undergoing dialysis, with 60 of them in need of kidney transplants but lacking donors.

She encouraged their relatives to come forward for testing and to consider donating kidneys to alleviate their loved ones' challenges.

Also  Dr. Hamis Isaka, a urology specialist, explained that the modern technique used for kidney harvesting is Hand Assisted Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy, allowing donors to stay in the hospital for just two to three days and return to their normal activities within two to four weeks.

One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the hospital's professionals for their excellent medical care, support, compassion, and follow-up before and after the transplant, which has provided them with significant comfort.
