How Tanzanian athletes won the long race

Tanzanian athletes showcased the nation's prowess at the renowned Kilimanjaro International Marathon held in Moshi, Kilimanjaro region, with Hamis Athumani Misai clinching victory in the 42-kilometer race.

Misai completed the race in a remarkable time of 02:20:45, followed closely by fellow Tanzanian Aloyece Simbu, who finished in 02:21:17, while Kenyan runner Abraham Kipkosgei took third place with a time of 02:24:12.

In the women's 42-kilometer category, Kenyan Jacinta Chepkorir emerged victorious with a time of 02:45:39. The second place went to Tanzanian runner Mnyarandwa, finishing in 03:00:07, and Neema Sanka from Tanzania secured third place with a time of 03:00:49.

Historically, Kenya has dominated the 42-kilometer race, but this year, Tanzania made a significant mark.

In the 21-kilometer race, Tanzanian Inyasi Sule took the top spot with a time of 01:17:37, while another Tanzanian followed closely behind. On the women's side, Tanzanian Failuna Matanga led the pack, finishing with the same time of 01:17:37.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Doto Biteko, speaking at the event, urged the Ministries of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, along with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, to explore effective collaboration with the organizers of the Kilimanjaro International Marathon to promote and enhance tourism in the country.

He emphasized that the Kilimanjaro Marathon should serve as a tool for promoting tourism, encouraging all participants to also become visitors to various attractions in the region.

Additionally, Biteko encouraged all participants to inspire fellow Tanzanians to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular exercise.

"I urge all Tanzanians and participants to make exercise a permanent habit among us, helping to prevent various diseases, especially non-communicable ones. I also encourage everyone to pay attention to healthy eating, ensuring we have balanced meals at all times." Dr Biteko said .
