WHO released a statement regarding the united states' declaration intention to withdraw

Trump intent to withdraw from WHO

The World Health Organization(WHO) has expressed its disappointment over President Donald Trump's announcement regarding the United States' withdrawal from the agency.

Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus conveyed this sentiment in a statement, "emphasizing the hope that the U.S. will rethink its decision and engage in meaningful discussions to preserve the partnership that benefits global health".

Following Trump's executive order on January 21, which effectively ended U.S. membership, the WHO highlighted its vital role in safeguarding health worldwide, including for Americans, by tackling disease causes and responding to health crises.

The organization reminded that the U.S. has been a founding member since 1948, playing a significant role in its governance and initiatives, and expressed a desire for the U.S. to reconsider, noting their collaborative successes in eradicating diseases like smallpox and nearing the elimination of polio

Trump's withdrawal of the US from the WHO dates back to his initial presidential term, during which he lambasted the organization for its sluggish response and alleged ties to China amid the Covid-19 crisis in 2020. This move carries substantial repercussions, particularly given that the US has historically provided about 18% of the WHO's total funding.

The ramifications extend beyond the WHO itself, potentially affecting the broader US healthcare system as well.
