The Kenyan court has threatened to hold the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in contempt if he fails to appear on the scheduled date.
During a warning issued on January 8, 2025, at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, High Court Judge "Bahati Mwamuye" stated that if Inspector General Douglas Kanja misses court for a third time, he would have no choice but to charge him with contempt and impose an immediate sentence.
Both Kanja and Interior Cabinet Secretary Philip Murkomen were summoned to address allegations of abduction but failed to appear, marking the second time Kanja has disregarded court orders.
Additionally, Murkomen was represented by his lawyer, Danstan Omari, who was expelled from the courtroom for allegedly disrupting the proceedings, with the judge also issuing a warning to the head of the DCI's Name Crimes Unit.
This situation arises just a week after the High Court called Kanja to address recent abduction cases involving several individuals.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported a total of 82 abduction cases since June 2024, while six youths who were reported missing in December 2024 resurfaced alive, claiming they had been abandoned in different locations across the country before returning home on their own.
