The Office of Criminal Investigation of Public Officials has halted its efforts to arrest South Korean President Yoon Suk after a six-hour standoff with security personnel outside his residence.
The office stated that an arrest was deemed unfeasible and indicated that future actions would be determined after further evaluation, expressing disappointment over Yoon's refusal to engage with the legal process.
Supporters of Yoon, who have been gathered outside the presidential home for several days, celebrated the cessation of the arrest attempt with songs and dances, proclaiming their victory.
Additionally, concerns for the safety of the team on the ground contributed to the decision to suspend the operation.
Earlier this week, a Seoul court had issued an arrest warrant for Yoon following his failure to respond to requests for questioning over the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, prosecutors have also charged Park An-su, a martial law commander, with major armed forces insurrection, as reported by Seoul news outlet Yonhap.
