Dr Mpango writes letter to the president to rest as vice president

Dr Mpango wants to rest in his new government position

The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, has submitted a letter to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan requesting to step down from his position.

This was announced by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan on January 19, 2025, during a Special General Meeting in Dodoma. After careful consideration, she has agreed to the request; however, Dr. Mpango will remain in office until the upcoming general elections later this year.

President Samia noted that Dr. Mpango, who is 68 years old, expressed a desire to retire for personal reasons unrelated to his work.

She mentioned that he had presented his resignation letter to her last week, and after discussing the matter with the Central Committee, they collectively decided to grant his request for retirement.
