Prime Minister of Tanzania Dr Majaliwa has urged project managers overseeing government initiatives, including those in education, to ensure timely completion and quality that reflects the financial resources allocated.
He made this call today (Monday, January 6, 2025) during the inauguration of Makoba Secondary School in the North Unguja Region of Zanzibar.
The opening of this school is part of the celebrations leading up to the 61st anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution.
He emphasized that the government continues to allocate financial resources for the development of the education sector, significantly enhancing the environment for educational access, including infrastructure development.
The Prime Minister noted that over the 61 years since the Zanzibar Revolution, President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has elevated the education sector by ensuring effective service delivery.
"I have no doubt that under the leadership of Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, we are witnessing significant progress in expanding educational opportunities in the country, a commendable achievement stemming from the Revolution that is now 61 years old." Dr Majaliwa.
Additionally, Prime Minister Dr . Majaliwa stated that the government, led by President Mwinyi, has been implementing substantial reforms in education to enhance service delivery efficiency.
"These reforms include the introduction of a new competency-based curriculum that enables children to learn through practical experiences and adapt to the rapid changes in science and technology." he said .
He added that the government continues to implement plans and strategies to ensure progress across all sectors.
The Minister of Education and Practical Training, Lela Mohamed Mussa, stated that President Dr. Mwinyi embodies the vision of the Founders of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar by implementing significant reforms in the education sector.
The government has committed to enhancing classroom infrastructure, with plans to construct 1,000 primary school classrooms and 500 at the secondary level.
To date, 2,893 classrooms have been completed at the primary level and 1,917 at the secondary level.
The total cost for the fully completed school construction, funded by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar under President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, amounts to 6.1 billion shillings.
