Online tensions have escalated between Uganda's Army Chief General , Muhoozi Kainerugaba and prominent politician Bobi Wine.
This follows Kainerugaba's alarming statement expressing a desire to eliminate the opposition leader, who is also known as Robert Kyagulanyi.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday evening, Kainerugaba claimed that his father, long-time President Yoweri Museveni, is the only one protecting Bobi Wine from him.
In response to the threats, Bobi Wine, who finished second in the 2021 presidential election against Museveni, stated that he takes these threats seriously, especially given the history of violence against his supporters.
Kainerugaba retorted, suggesting that Bobi Wine had been financially supported by the government to diminish the opposition movement, a claim Bobi Wine vehemently denies, questioning why the government would pursue him if they had indeed funded him.
Bobi Wine, a former musician turned political figure, has been a vocal critic of Museveni's regime, alleging electoral fraud and intimidation during the 2021 elections.
Meanwhile, a government spokesperson has urged the public to disregard Kainerugaba's online remarks, asserting they should not be taken seriously or interpreted as official government policy.
