“Fellow Tanzanians, the time has come to stop using medicine without the advice of health professionals. Go to health care centers to get the right tests and instructions for the use of medicine. Also, the medicines and medical devices authority oversees the correct use of antibiotics.”

The Prime minister added that the issue should go hand in hand with properly managing drug delivery services in pharmacies and ensuring that the possible side effects from the use of drugs and medical equipment are closely controlled.

In addition, the Prime Minister has asked the Medicines and Medical Devices authority to increase the control of drug waste, especially at public health care centers. “The Ministry of Health together with TAMISEMI should use the existing systems to close the loopholes of drug waste in centers and the availability of proper drug supply to avoid drug spoilage.”

Likewise, the Prime Minister has used the opportunity to mention the efforts made by the Government in strengthening drug services, including continuing to provide funds amounting to 16 billion shillings every month for drugs. “The move has strengthened the availability of medicines until it has reached an average of 85 percent.”
