The Assistant Commissioner for Conservation of the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, Theodora Aloyce, has said that the people living along the Udzungwa Mountains Park have become major economic beneficiaries due to doing tourism business by selling tourism products which have become a major attraction for foreigners, including tourism of natural foods and fruits like Madafu, which have increased the value of the Park.
He noted this on September 27, 2024 while receiving guests from the Masasi Town Council, including Councilors and heads of departments, who visited the Udzungwa Mountain Park, the aim being to see for themselves the uniqueness of the Park with a 170 meter waterfall, plant species, unique wildlife, and amazing birds.
“In our villages we have established good relations between us conservationists and local residents. They have learned how to increase the value of traditional food tourism, they have been selling baskets, bracelets and bracelets where many visitors, especially foreign tourists, enjoy Udzungwa's food due to the history of these fruits,” said Afande Theodora.
On his part, the Chairman of Masasi Town Council, Hon. Hashimu Namtumba, said the aim of them to visit the Park is to support the efforts of Hon. President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan in promoting the tourism of the nation's natural resources as well as being good ambassadors in preserving and taking care of the country's resources.
“It's really a great park. We have enjoyed experiencing the waterfall. We have only been hearing a lot, but today we have found history and know some animals, including Ngolanga monkeys found only here in the whole world, as well as many unique birds,” said Hon. Secondhand.
And the Acting Director of the Masasi Council, Mrs. Remada Mbowe, explained how the uniqueness of the Udzungwa Mountains Reserve will strengthen their thoughts in the performance of their daily activities, as its environment is refreshing and reduces stress for anyone who arrives in the landscape of the Park.
“In fact in this Park we have seen good things. Personally, when I got to these waterfalls, I couldn't help myself, I ran to this water, it's really beautiful. Tanzanians should now see the need to visit this Park because I have seen a lot and some are rebuilding our minds,” said Mrs. Remada.
Udzungwa Mountains National Park is recognized as the only Park with beauty that attracts great biodiversity. Its 170-meter waterfall makes the Park of great importance in the conservation of water which is an important source of the rivers, it serves in the surrounding areas.
