Prime minister ( Kassim Majaliwa) has called on development Partners to cooperate with the government in achieving the implementation of the health Insurance for all program and help strengthen the system of financing health services to make it sustainable.
Dr. Majaliwa has said that in order to strengthen the system of financing health services, the government has already started taking various measures, including continuing to increase the budget level of the health Sector.
He made this when he represented the Honorable President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at the opening of the Universal Health Insurance debate and the National Health Services Funding Forum for the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance Act (UHI), in Arusha.
“Also, we have established a fund to cover the poor citizens, we have identified specific sources of funds to cover Health Insurance for the poor citizens where in the year 2024/2025 budget 173.5 billion shillings have been allocated for that purpose.”he said.
Likewise, Dr. Majaliwa has said that the implementation of Universal Health Insurance will be successful due to the large investment made by the government in the health sector, including the construction of infrastructure and the quality of diagnostic services.
He has said that the government has invested in the purchase and installation of modern medical equipment for the diagnosis and detection of various diseases, where until now there are MRI 13, CT-Scan 45, Digital X-Ray 346 and Ultrasound 668 machines from the 476 that existed in 2021. “This step has enabled the availability of specialist diagnostic services.”
In another step, Dr. Majaliwa has said that the government has continued to strengthen the availability of medicines in the country by providing funds every month for the purchase of medicines.
“Until October 2024 access had reached an average of 85 percent while in terms of clinics it is 76 percent, health centers are 75 percent, Council Hospitals are 78 percent, Regional Referral Hospitals are 99 percent and National Hospital, Special and region is 98 percent”.he said .
The government has aimed to strengthen health insurance for every citizen in the country in order to improve health services and provision of health services more easily.
